The Texas Aces Squirt Fausel team showed what playing as a team can do this past weekend. After winning their first game vs. Odessa they went on to a hard fought 3-3 tie with a crafty Bay Area squad. This left a match up with the San Antonio Thunder which always produces a close match. The Aces prevailed 4-1 setting up a rematch in the Championship game with San Antonio. After 3 periods and incredible effort, the Texas Aces Squirts pulled out a 3-0 victory bringing home the hardware. Congratulations on a job well done! |

In the Colorado Cup Tournament the Texas Aces Bantam Sharon team went 5-0: 2-2, 3-3, 5-0, 6-0, 4-3 OT. The Championship game against the Colorado Springs, Jr. TIgers was a tough fought game with the Aces tying the game in the 3rd period. Three minutes into overtime Eric Rowat stuffed a pass from Camden Debonis into the goal for the game winning goal. It was a great hockey tournament with all players contributing. Goalies James Brown and Chris Neukranz played exceptionally solid in all games. We played right by USA Hockey Headquarters and skated two games on the bigger international ice surface. Thanks to all the parents for the wonderful support. Great job!

The game was pushed to a 2-2 tie and the Ace's prevailed on shootout goals by Ethan Chun and Michael Piehler. Points were balanced throughout the team as they gelled in this tournament. Great job Aces! |

The Texas Aces Midget Mills Major A hockey team concluded a successful MLK weekend by winning the Colorado Cup in Colorado Springs. Led by balanced scoring, great goaltending and great determination, the team defeated teams from Colorado, California and Texas. After going 4-0 in the round robin portion of the tournament, the team entered the championship game on Monday as the #1 seed. In the championship game, against a familiar foe named DJHA, the Aces fell behind early, giving up 2 quick goals to those pesky Penguins. However, this team was not going to be denied the chance to win a championship. The team rallied to score the next 4, including goals from Joey Thomas, Michael Allen, Justin Vollmer and Devin May to take the lead for good. Joey Thomas added an open net goal and the celebration was on. Congratulations to all on a job well done. |

The Aces Midget Minor AA Team, led by Head Coach Steve Steen and Assistant Coach Zack Owen, won the 2009 Western Region Silver Stick Championship with an outstanding 3-2 victory over a spirited DJHA Penguin team. The two team captains started the scoring with a blast from the top of the circle by Ben Owen assisted by Tyler Steen. At 8:39 of the 2nd period Ryne Glazier and Timmy Holt combined for a pretty goal to put the Aces up by 2 goals. The Penguins would answer back scoring on a power play opportunity at 10:24 of the second period. The two teams would battle until the Penguins tied the score at 7:50 of the 3rd period. The score would remain unchanged in regulation setting up a 5 minute overtime period. Having skated 11 players this tournament, the boys took their tired legs and would simply not be denied. Josh Walpole scored the Game Winner at 2:19 of OT.
The champioship title capped an undefeated tournament for the Aces in which they would outscore their oponnents 27 to 4. Everyone on the team contributed with outstanding offensive and defensive efforts. The scoring was led by tournament scoring leader Tyler Steen with 13 points while Dane Mahieu and Spencer Harris led the Tournament in almost every goalie category holding opponents to 4 goals in 5 games with 2 shutouts. CONGRATULATIONS ACES! |
